The World in Summary

The world’s news, briefly.

About & editorial policy

The World in Summary introduces consequential reporting from around the world through short headlines and summaries in English and Japanese, then links readers to the original publisher. The English edition covers economy, world affairs, technology, US news and sports.

How we choose stories

We gather candidates through web search and the New York Times public RSS feed. AI selects important, distinct events and writes neutral summaries using the retrieved material. NYT is a source and its stories appear in the relevant topic.

Sources & accuracy

Source links come from retrieved URLs. We do not conduct original reporting or reproduce full articles. AI-generated headlines and summaries can contain errors or omit context. Check the source and publication date before making important decisions. Some sources require a subscription; NYT links are marked accordingly.

Updates & retention

Daily refresh is scheduled at 7 AM Eastern time. If retrieval fails, the previous edition remains available. Story selections can change between refreshes. Daily editions and previously fetched category summaries remain accessible for at least 90 days. A refresh does not erase earlier category stories.
